From her cozy home studio, Lauren handcrafts every piece with care, creating unique clothing and accessories that tell a story.
Meet Lauren
At the age of seven, my mum taught me to use a sewing machine as I had already been hand-stitching random items for a couple of years. The first thing I made on a sewing machine was a pencil case and a tank top – both from some hideous dark purple tracksuit fleece I had found. I have always loved designing and sewing clothes and costumes. Growing up I didn’t have the money to spend on a lot of fancy material so I learnt to use every last scrap with nothing going to waste, and whatever thread colour I had – whether it matched or not! To pay homage to my roots, you may find your Hot Ginger item has a mismatched fabric panel on the inside somewhere, or contrasting thread in the lining. You’re welcome.
After school, I completed a degree in Fashion Design and over the last 30 years I have made costumes professionally for both stage and screen for international productions to local amateur theatre – and everything in between.
The brand name Hot Ginger was originally thought up by my dad many years ago and he has patiently kept it alive for me all this time. So finally here it is – a chance to combine my love of costume design, some 50’s vibes, and quirky fashion style, to create some fabulous items for those who need no excuse to dress up. - Hot Ginger Reimagined: Reinvented thrifted items transformed into stylish, sustainable fashion statements, and one-of-a-kind items made from reclaimed or repurposed fabrics.
The Philosophy
Hot Ginger believes in the beauty of slow fashion—taking the time to create pieces that last, both in quality and style. Each design is a labour of love, crafted with sustainable practices and a commitment to reducing waste. By choosing Hot Ginger, you’re not just adding something unique to your wardrobe; you’re supporting a vision of thoughtful, intentional (fabulous) fashion. On a personal note, I believe in being grateful for what we have and giving back anyway we can. There are two charities which are close to my heart: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Motor Neuron Disease, and five per cent of everything I sell goes to these.
